For the past three years freelance photographer Randy Beacham has traveled and photographed extensively along the Lewis & Clark Trail from Fort Mandan, North Dakota to Cannon Beach, Oregon. This website showcases areas of the Lewis and Clark Trail that still retain wildlands and open landscapes much like Lewis & Clark witnessed nearly 200 years ago. While much of the country Lewis & Clark explored has been developed, we are still fortunate to have public lands along the route, most of which are managed to maintain the natural characteristics of the environment.

So take a few moments to journey along the Lewis and Clark Trail through the images of Randy Beacham and consider the foresight that many of our past local, state and national leaders had in preserving these unique landscapes. Also keep in mind that without sufficient public support and political leaders willing to preserve our national heritage some of the public lands along the trail (such as roadless areas in the Bitterroot Mountains) could change drastically in the upcoming 200 years.
